Eagles move to a three match win streak
The men’s tennis team competed in six matches in seven days starting Thursday, March 19 and ending on Wednesday, March 25. The Eagles won five out of their six matches, with two back to back 9-0 sweeps.
On Thursday, the Eagles earned their first 9-0 victory since 2011 against Colorado Christian University. The entire match lasted a little over two hours. One of the standout performances of the match came from freshman Phillip Westwood, who prevented his opponent from winning a game and finished both of his sets 6-0.
PUSHING TO A VICTORY
The next day, the Eagles pushed to get a 5-4 victory over Golden State Athletic Conference opponent Arizona Christian University. Biola’s final match of the weekend was against Middlebury College. The Eagles got off to a rough start in doubles, dropping all three against Middlebury to go into singles trailing behind 0-3. Westwood and senior Brandon Chang accounted for the only wins in the singles matches for Biola to finish 7-2.
MUCH NEEDED REST
A day of rest was all that the men needed to pull out a 9-0 sweep against Williamette University on Monday. Freshman David Garcia and sophomore Luke Mountain both denied their opponents a game.
The Eagles went to Hope International University to earn their second straight 9-0 sweep. Mountain once again stopped his opponent from winning a game.
THE FINAL MATCHUP
Biola’s final matchup was Pacific Lutheran University. The Eagles won all doubles matches, Westwood and Mountain defeating their opponents 8-0. Biola won five out of six singles matches, with Mountain earning another 6-0, 6-0 victory.
These six matches push the Eagles to a winning overall season at 10-8, and their conference season 4-4. Biola has two days to recover before going head-to-head against San Diego Christian College on Saturday, March 28. The Eagles dropped 6-3 earlier this season against San Diego Christian.
