Stealing the win
The women’s basketball team won their third straight game of the season against Pomona-Pitzer College on Dec. 9. The win puts the Eagles’ overall record at 8-3.
Biola’s full-court zone press in the first ten minutes of the game stunned Pomona-Pitzer and forced three turnovers to convert into easy layups and give Biola a 17-12 lead. The Eagles rode the momentum and pushed their lead to 27-16.
The Eagles took full advantage of Pomona-Pitzer’s struggles with clean passes. Biola had a total of eight steals at the end of the first half to lead Pomona-Pitzer 36-25.
Biola kept their lead against Pomona-Pitzer throughout the entire second half. Junior guard Annie Park found Pomona-Pitzer’s weakness and attacked the left block from the top of the arc. The Eagles scored 18 points of their second half points in the paint.
Biola outscored Pomona-Pitzer 41-37 in the second half despite Pomona-Pitzer having a higher shooting percentage in both three pointers and field goals. The Eagles also struggled with fouls, committing 11 out of 17 in the second half.
The Eagles kept their lead on Pomona-Pitzer to finish the game 77-62.
The Eagles will host Arizona Christian University on Saturday, Dec. 13 at 5:30.
